More Inflation
I do not know whether it has been the US Tariffs or the end of Trudeau's GST holiday or just plain greedflation, but I have noticed that many of my junk foods have jumped in price over the past couple of weeks:
City Pizza slices used to cost $1.67 ($1.75 with tax). Last week this jumped to $1.90 ($2.00 with tax). I expect we will hit $2.50 by the end of the year. City Pizza used to be a good deal, and it really isn't any more.
Toblerone bars at Dollarama used to cost $1.25 ($1.40 with tax). This has jumped to $1.50 ($1.70 with tax)
Great Value chocolate bars at Walmart used to cost $1.50 ($1.70 with tax). This has jumped to $1.68 ($1.90 with tax). This is the second big jump in a few months.
Macintosh Toffees at Independent grocery stores used to cost $1.50 ($1.70 with tax), and now they are $2.00 ($2.25 with tax).
The "Bowlfull" cooked pasta in tomato sauce used to be $1.50 at Dollarrama, and now they are $1.75 . Dollarrama was so eager to make this price jump that existing envelopes of pasta with the old price printed on them had stickers with the new price attached to them!
I am guessing we are in for a big jump in grocery prices. It does not matter whether there are tariffs or not; our oligopolies will jump on any excuse they have to bump prices.
